Monolithic Concrete Bridges

The 'Schaufelschlucht' by Marte Marte Has a Chic Curved Design

Architecture firm Marte Marte has designed a bridge in Austria titled 'Schaufelschlucht.' The bridge takes on a chic, curved form and is made up of heavy-duty concrete so that it's safe for both pedestrians and autos to cross.

The design is meant to reflect the surrounding landscape, which consists of beautiful rolling hills and trees. As such the bridge is curved and shaped to match this nature. The bottom half of the structure has an arched look to it, and spans overtop of a large gorge. While the bridge itself is quite short, it still stands out in the area, and is more than a simple concrete slab conjoining two sides.

For anyone taking a scenic drive through the mountains in this part of Austria, crossing this bridge would also deserve a stop for pictures. Photo Credits: designboom, marte-marte
