Hypnotizing Art Installations

The Shimmering 'Liquid Shard' Installation Mesmerizes Visitors

Patrick Shearn has designed a mesmerizing new art installation that is called 'Liquid Shard.'

'Liquid Shard' is a shimmering canopy comprised of 15,000 square feet of mylar strips, cut between 15 and 115 feet above Pershing Square. The silver strips glimmer in the sunlight. Patrick Shearn worked with a team from the Architectural Association Visiting School to 3D model the installation to plan the layout. The thousands of mylar ribbons were then cut and attached to a frame of fiber rope and bungee cords.

The project was also supported by Now Art LA, which brings art installations to LA to make the city more colorful and less gritty.

The designer Patrick Shearn owns Poetic Kinetics, which is a studio that specialized in large-scale, experimental art pieces, that can often be spotted at places like Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival.
