Limestone-Clad Skyscrapers

ÁLvaro Siza Unveils a 450-Foot-Tall Limestone Skyscraper in Manhattan

A sizable, 450-foot-tall limestone skyscraper was unveiled this month in Manhattan on 611 West 56th street. The architectural design is courtesy of Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, who has been honored with the Pritzker Architecture Prize in the past.

The limestone skyscraper goes up for 37 stories and contains a total of 77 luxury condominiums. The larger maisonettes and the grand penthouse, part of this number, also have private terraces for affluent residents to enjoy. There are also entertainment rooms, an exercise center, as well as a community room—ideal for events and hosting—as part of this development. The architectural marvel is entirely clad in Perla Bianca limestone—a luxe, ivory light cream-beige limestone, quarried in Turkey. This material offers an elegant contrast with other buildings in the area which embrace a much darker facade.
