Brilliant Disco Ball Installations

The 'Light Leaks' Installation Floods Rooms With Retro Light

Artists Kyle McDonald and Jonas Jongejan birthed the king of all disco balls and named it 'Light Leaks.'

Featured at the 2013 CLICK festival, the installation attempted to light up a room in new and innovative ways that conventional methods could not achieve. McDonald and Jongejan used 50 disco balls and three projectors in order create stunning light effects.

Carefully arranged into a pile, the disco balls reflected light with a chaotic elegance. The projections created certain patterns of light to flood the room with seemingly random white dots. Though the light show generated by the installation was certainly chaotic, beautiful patterns were still created. The artists wanted the installation to inspire spectators to feel "a meditative state, and an uneasy imbalance."
