The Larder Cupboard by Inglis Hall Adapts a Workshop Storage Piece

The Larder cupboard by Inglis Hall originated as a practical storage solution used within the company’s own workshop before being selected by designer Jay Osgerby for his personal kitchen. Following that discovery, the cabinet was introduced as a made-to-order product that translates a functional workshop fixture into a freestanding furniture piece.

Standing more than two metres tall, the design is constructed from solid wood and is available in oak, larch, or walnut. Its restrained exterior emphasizes clean proportions and a monolithic presence suited to both contemporary and traditional interiors.

The cabinet measures 1100 by 2131 by 456 millimetres and is designed to maximize storage while maintaining a compact footprint. Full-height doors open 180 degrees, transforming the enclosed volume into an expansive display and organization system.

Trend Themes

  1. Workshop-to-home Design — Repurposing functional workshop fixtures into refined domestic furniture creates opportunities for products that convey authenticity and toolroom provenance.
  2. Made-to-order Heritage Furniture — Artisanal, made-to-order production tied to traditional materials enables premium, low-volume offerings that blend craftsmanship with contemporary demand patterns.
  3. Maximized Vertical Storage — Tall, compact cabinetry that opens into expansive display systems addresses space-constrained living while emphasizing organized, multifunctional interiors.

Industry Implications

  1. Furniture Manufacturing — A focus on solid-wood construction and customizable dimensions permits vertically integrated firms to differentiate through material provenance and bespoke production workflows.
  2. Interior Design and Architecture — Design practices that integrate monolithic storage pieces can redefine room layouts by using tall cabinetry as both functional storage and sculptural focal points.
  3. Retail and E-commerce — Direct-to-consumer channels that support made-to-order purchase models and immersive product visualization can shift consumer expectations around lead time and personalization.
