'Transit Mantra' Ceiling Lights Up Matching Every Foot Step

'Transit Mantra,' a structure that works as interactive tunnel lights and sound makes walking in dark spaces a much safer and illuminating journey. Designed by Amsterdam-originated designers Knol Ontwerp, the tunnel is set in Eindhoven, Netherlands and opened in August 2013.

The design was inspired by the history of the city it was made in and is reflective of the idea of "being in transit." The structure also provides a way for pedestrians to have a elegantly lit path to guide them through. The installation is made to react depending on how many people pass through and at what speed.

The lights guide the way in front each pedestrian and trails behind them in a graceful way, symbolic of how our minds wander in reflection and thought. Another goal of 'Transit Mantra,' as mentioned on its website, is to show that technology can be "aesthetic, innovative and functional at the same time."

It's definitely a beautiful concept and many places would benefit from such a functional and useful, yet creative and inspiring installation.
