This Holiday Home Was Built Away From Its Site

Architects Tim Piet and Jos Blom (formerly FLATarchitects) designed the 'KHM26 House,' a holiday home located on a challenging watershed site on the banks of Pikmeer lake in Friesland, the Netherlands. The home was transported to the site via two large cranes.

The architects explain, "One of the consequences of the unique location at the edge of the lake was that the building site was hard to reach for construction. Therefore we decided to build the house elsewhere. This way it became possible to assure a high quality construction."

This unique building method allowed the architects to be more unconventional. The home's core is built from concrete, ensuring a stable base. A pre-weathered metal shell was added around it, a process which could have never been completed on site due to the need for total precision.
