Photosensitive Light Installations

Heijdens Creates 3D Paintings in Water Using Photosensitive Dye

In light of the art show Design Miami for 2013, UK-based designer Simon Heijdens has been commissioned by leading champagne brand Perrier-Jouët to create a stunning installment of nine suspended, hand-blown tanks that have the ability to analyze data taken from wind into patterns of light. The installation is called 'Phare No. 1-9' features the tanks filled with a transparent fluid.

At the top of the tanks are lights that are projected onto the liquid that has a photosensitive dye, making it change color. The result is an artistic take on the ability of light to shape and create abstract patterns that reflect off of the white walls, ceiling and floor of the exhibit. According to Dezeen, the installment is "intended as a contemporary interpretation of the Art Nouveau movement."
