Hanami 2050 Takes Influence from Japanese Cherry Blossoms

Created to coincide with the annual Hanami cherry blossom festival, Hanami 2050 manages to capture the beauty of the blossoms in a digitally enhanced space. Created by Danish floral designer Nicolai Bergmann, the digitally enhanced flower exhibition is currently being presented at the historic Fukuoka / Dazaifu Tenmangu Shinto shrine. The shrine has played host to the flower festival in 2014 and 2016, but Bergmann's exhibit is the first of its kind. The decision to show Hanami 2050 was to create something never seen before and to explore how digital art will play a role in the development of future exhibitions.

Hanami 2050 takes heavy influence from the traditional Japanese festival and uses the deep pink colors of the flowers as a strong theme. Bergmann created his exhibit by using digital loops called 'Future Flowers' in conjunction with Japanese design firm OneSal. The exhibit is displayed on screens found in the natural foliage and shows buds emerging into new flowers in fractal and organic fireworks.
