Starbucks' Food Donation Program Converts Waste to Nourishment

American coffee giant Starbucks has teamed up with the charitable organization Food Donation Connection and non-profit group Feeding America to set up a food donation program in which leftover food will be donated to food banks rather than discarded and wasted.

This ambitious and thoughtful food donation program is dubbed FoodShare, and revolves around the donation of ready-to-eat food items to food backs from all 7,600 Starbucks outlets across the USA. The aim of the program is to provide nearly five million meals to people in need of nourishment.

This program is a laudable one in that it aims to make a dent, however small, in the 70 billion pounds of food wastage that the USA is responsible for every year, and enables Starbucks to have a real impact without any negative impact on its business.
