Swirling Amorphous Pavilions

UNStudio's 'Ellipsicoon' is a Space for Relaxation and Performance

Ellipsicoon, a pavilion designed by UNStudio for the Revolution Precrafted pavilion series, might look extremely unusual, but that's because it's the result of tackling an extremely thorny problem in the fields of architecture and design. When designing a space for a single use, it's relatively easier to create something that works for the people who will ultimately occupy it. However, bringing multiple uses into the equation exponentially increases the difficulty of the project -- and that's exactly what Ellipsicoon works to do.

The amorphously shaped pavilion is both a space for quiet contemplation in the middle of a forest trail and a performance space for al fresco theater. Not only that, but it also works to complement the existing natural space.
