DEAR FARM Features Oddly Placed Windows and Terra Cotta Shingles

Farms are among the most standard, inflexible architectural structures, but VIVA Architecture's DEAR FARM does its best to subvert those gestures without completely abandoning the key pieces of what makes a farmhouse a farmhouse. Though DEAR FARM is indeed a tall and long gabled building, it has unique features like randomly placed windows and skylights and a terra cotta roof with shingles that descend to cover two of the building's sides.

Since DEAR FARM is in an agricultural region, with many neighboring buildings having stood since the 19th century, it appropriately pays homage to those traditional designs. As its exterior makes clear, though, the modern aesthetic is clearly in place in the home.

On the interior, it features bare, untreated wood walls and ceilings, further reference to the simpler times of the agricultural past.
