Slender Steel Tables

The Chopsticks Tables Feature Steel Reinforcement

Taiwan designer Andrew Cheng has created the 'Chopsticks Tables.'

Cheng set out to create a table with the most slender legs that he could manage. The final product features legs which measure only 1.2 centimeters in diameter. Skilled at working with both wood and metal, Cheng reinforced the beech-wood legs with a steel rod.

Much like graphite pencils, the wooden is halved and wrapped around the steel. Cheng wanted the table to appear so delicate, people would question whether or not it would be able to support substantial weight; he chose beech wood for its dense and robust qualities. Because the legs are intended to be the focus, the rest of the design is kept to the bare essentials.
