This Chicago Residence is Sleek and Sustainable

Dirk Denison Architects was responsible for designing this Chicago residence for a single family in Illinois.

The urban townhouse features overlapping materials, interior and exterior layering and complex spatial relationships. The indoor spaces are connected with the outdoor spaces, such as terraces and outdoor landscaping, forming an inspired visual relationship. Inside, the interior is made up of translucent glazing and stainless steel, adding to the inventive spatial evolution. An integrated aquarium houses the family's growing fish collection.

The home is sleek, sophisticated and well-articulated. It achieves all of its design objectives while managing to stay environmentally friendly. For instance, the home features geothermal temperature regulation, green roof systems and automated shade controls. The windows are fabricated with insulated glazing and UV protection. The entire house is oriented towards the south, maximizing exposure to natural light.
