Cooperative Architectural Concepts

The Center for Virtual Engineering is Communal

Fraunhofer Institute's 'Center for Virtual Engineering' (ZVE) builds on a communal design concept. The Dutch architects at UNStudio received a German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) award for its work here, and though the structure is lined with green BubbleDeck flooring, one of its most remarkable aspects is its cooperative feel.

UNStudio aimed to eliminate barriers set up between different branches of engineering. Prototyping, aftermath estimation and research will all be enmeshed in what is referred to here as the 'communication area,' also known as the ZVE's shared office space.

Frauhofer's focus on inter-disciplinary cooperation is one that has been catching on within a variety of modern buildings. Open office spaces are becoming a rule of thumb for contemporary blueprints, aiding in the spread and development of business ideas.
