This Celine Fall Collection Takes a Trip Back to the 1930s

When creating the Céline Fall 2014 collection, what was on the mind of Phoebe Philo was the 1930s, specifically women like Hannah Höch and Lee Miller, who were both key players in Dadaism and Surrealism. The starting point of the collection was a photo of Miller in the bath after the fall of the Nazis.

Inspired by all of the quirk and whimsy of these two experimental art movements, the clothing collection expresses the same kind of radical thinking. Philo's collection makes reference to garments that would have been quite a scandal when worn by women of the 30s, although now it's quite common for women to don menswear. With this in mind, several pieces from the collection are oversized, but make the perfect contrast to feminine details like platform sandals and cozy knits.
