Michael Maltzan Architecture has designed a modern, circular construct called 'Carver Apartments' next to the I-1 freeway in Los Angeles. Carver Apartments is a 97-unit public housing complex for formerly homeless elderly and disabled residents.

Carver Apartments represents a new optimism for public spaces and housing in LA. The complex boasts communal spaces such as kitchens, dining and gathering areas as well as gardens. There are also medical and social service support facilities allowing occupants to integrate into and feel connected to the community.
