Canadian brothers and photographers Carlos and Jason Sanchez recently shot a series of horror film-inspired photographs that put a new edge on cinematic photography.
This type of photography often requires much staging and preparation. First, each scene must be thought out, then the props, settings and models must be acquired. Finally everything must be put together in such a way that, like a jig-saw puzzle, each piece fits with the others. In some ways it is more difficult than filming.
When every shot is still, the viewer is given free reign to nitpick over errors and blemishes that might be missed in film. The shadow of the photographer creeping into a set could ruin the whole illusion of the scene, for instance.
