Venice Canal-Referencing Chairs

Luca Nichetto Designs the Canal Chair Inspired by His Heritage

Italian designer Luca Nichetto designs the Canal Chair inspired by his roots and where he first grew his designing profile. The chair made its debut at the Stockholm Design Week earlier this year and is the first piece Nichetto designed for Dutch design label 'Moooi.' The name of the furniture piece directly references the Venice canals and Murano island, which is the designer's birthplace, and marks the roots of his designing experience.

The Canal Chair's highlighting component is the curvaceous back that rises to take on the structure of a bow that represents a traditional Venetian boat. The piece is available with either oak or metal legs with the option to add a swivel element. The upholstery is made in a series of fabric colors influenced by the bright colored stripes often seen on Venetian boats. It can also be customized with embellishments to recall the ways that Venetians personally design their own boats.
