Alexi Torres Paints Portraits Resembling Burlap Sculptures

"Sophisticated" does not even begin to describe the artwork of Alexi Torres. Looking at these images, you may be tempted to think these are photographs of burlap sculpted to resemble celebrity faces. Well think again, because these images are in actuality oil paintings, but look as though they've been weaved together. It’s an illustrative style that I’ve never seen before, and Torres’ work, without question, stands out from anything his artistic peers produce.

Readers should take the time to really evaluate how difficult it is to make images like Alexi Torres. Firstly, you have to be a master of photorealistic portraiture. You then have to imagine people’s faces as they’d look if it were interwoven with threads. After that, you have to go and paint in the shadows of each individual thread in addition to capturing the value of the overall piece. Just describing the process was a tiring experience.
