Aircraft Monitoring Maps

The AirMap App Helps Drone Pilots Avoid Manned Aircraft

AirMap, a startup from Santa Monica, is an app that helps drone operators to navigate the skies. Air traffic control is becoming an increasingly pressing issue as drones increase in both popularity and ability. The AirMap app alerts operators to both manned aircraft traffic and other drones, helping keep people safe and drones intact.

The mobile app gives real time alerts about incoming manned aircraft. While standard commercial planes fly far too high to encounter drones, vehicles like helicopters, crop dusters, and small propeller planes may be within the range of a drone. Should any of these vehicles, or even another drone, enter the airspace in which a drone operator is flying his or her device, the AirMap app will ping them and show them a moving pin that represents the other vehicle's location.
Trend Themes
1. Airspace Safety Monitoring - The development of more advanced real-time airspace monitoring technology that can detect the presence of both manned aircraft and drones in lower altitudes and provide early warning to operators.
2. Drone Traffic Management - The continued growth of drone use has created the need for better systems for managing drone traffic and preventing collisions with both other drones and manned aircraft.
3. Mobile Navigation Apps for Drones - The development of more advanced mobile apps that provide drone operators real-time information regarding their surroundings to avoid collisions.
Industry Implications
1. Drone Technology - As drone technology expands and becomes more popular, the industry needs to ensure that safety mechanisms keep up with demand for better air traffic management.
2. Aviation - As drones become more commonplace in the skies, the aviation industry needs to invest in and adopt better technology to track and monitor drone activities.
3. Mobile App Development - The growing need for more sophisticated mobile app technology to help drone operators avoid collisions opens opportunities for developers to innovate with new features and functionality.
