These images of abandoned houses in Detroit have been taken by blogger and photographer Sweet Juniper. They are part of a collection taken over three summers in the city once buzzing with the automotive manufacturing industry.
It is estimated there are as many as 10,000 abandoned structures in Detroit at any time. Many are torn down or burned down. A few still stand and in the summer months they become overgrown with vines and shrubbery becoming as Sweet Juniper aptly describes a ‘Feral.’ In Latin the word feralis translates to ‘belonging to the dead,’ and fera means ‘wild beast.’
