Porthole Wine Cellars

This Underground Cellar Has a Glass Roof That Doubles As the Kitchen Floor

London architect Simon Astridge designed this cave-like underground cellar for wine, which is located in a kitchen showroom in Putney. The unique aspect of this underground cellar is its glass roof which allows those in the kitchen to clearly see the entire cellar from above -- like a porthole.

This creative design is an elegant addition to the modernized kitchen, which is designed with an all-black aesthetic. The idea for this particular wine storage system was inspired by underground wine cellars of old French farmhouses.

This wine cave boasts a spiral shape and adds an element of intrigue to the dark and sophisticated kitchen. To make this unique kitchen feature, the entire basement was refurbished and waterproofed before black concrete walls were created.
