Solitude-Promoting Abodes

Yuji Kimura Builds a House for Relaxation in Tokyo

The K House in Tokyo built by Yuji Kimura is a white-washed design, which promotes relaxation with its private patio sections.

According to DesignBoom, "since the owner’s requests included an exterior deck space where they could enjoy fresh air, a challenge arose from the fact that several sides of the design are adjacent to noisy streets." Rising to the challenge, the architects built a large wall on one side, so that the patio area could still receive light, but was cut off enough from the road and cars passing by. For those living in a city, a design such as this is ideal for making the most out of a small space. Moreover, it still allows for the owners to enjoy sunlight, which can be difficult to obtain when trying to block noise. Photo Credits: designboom, yujikimura
