Geometric Student-Run Libraries

X-Space is a Library that is Built by Students for Students

X-Space is a unique idea. While libraries often have students at the core when they think about design, they’re rarely specific enough. X-Space will bring the point of view and vision from the people using the library to the forefront.

This library put the ideas of 108 eighth graders to the test as it uses many of them in a literal sense. The X in X-Space comes from the angular shelving units that the students have come up with. The resultant diamond-like shelving is made of plywood and is called STAX.

Holding the books in these stacks makes for easy off-the-shelf reading and a interesting design for a modern library. The ideas altogether make for a n engaging place for young people to read, experiment and learn.
