Lewis Tsurumaki from Lewis Architects has designed this vibrant and eye-catching interior for Xing restaurant, a Chinese restaurant in New York.
There are four separate but connected areas in Xing restaurant and each is differentiated with a specific material. In the public areas, the material used is stone and bamboo, with the front bar featuring layered stone and seating booths wrapped in bamboo. As you work your way to the back of the restaurant, you'll find a transition into softer materials, such as velvet (for the private area). A corridor connecting the front to the back features a canopy made of a floor-to-ceiling stack of 1/4-inch wide colored acrylic, creating a rainbow of stripes over the hallway.
The lights, rather than being affixed onto surfaces, are embedded, which "tease out a richness and depth of the architectural surfaces," says the Retail Design Blog.
