Traditionally Designed Chicken Coops

This Wooden Chicken Coop Is an Exploration of Culture

Inspired by local Finnish building culture this unique wooden chicken coop resembles traditional log cabins found in rural Finland. Designed by London-based studio Chan Brisco Architects, this wooden chicken coop was purposely built for a property on the southern shore of Lake Porovesi. Large enough to house eight chickens through the summer months, the coop not only reflects traditional-log cabins but also utilizes the same methods used by the local residents.

According to architects Thom Brisco and Nicola Chan "Whilst the project may present a small undertaking, it has permitted the practice to research and to work within a striking and persistent local building culture." This is really the driving factor behind the wooden chicken coop, as it has allowed the architects to step outside their regular work and examine how design and construction come together in rural Finland.
