These wood grain chairs by Japanese design studio Nendo mix different types of wood patterns by using natural timber and printing. The chairs were created for a forthcoming solo show in Milan.
The chairs each use two square panels of natural timber and they sit on four metal legs. The simplicity of the chairs keeps the attention directed on the intricate printing design on each of the wooden sections.
Some of the chairs have layered woodgrain patterns whereas others have enlarged, abstract woodgrains printed onto existing natural patterns. Nendo experiment with other designs as well such as printing a marble pattern onto wood. The patterns leave the viewer uncertain of which grain is natural, and which grain has been printed onto the wood.
