The Urban Field is an Evolving Skin for the Modern Metropolis

The expansion of cities is a gradual and natural process but the urban planning strategies of most metropolises do not allow for an organic evolution. The Urban Field Adaptive Urban Fabric project proposes a start with a blank slate and the organization of an intricate structural skin that's more conducive to changing needs.

Austria's Thomas Grabner and Ursula Frick worked based on the concept of Navi Mumbai as the setting for such an expansive city overhaul. However, looking at these computer renderings, the complex community could really exist just about anywhere on the planet. A mesmerizing membrane of skyscrapers that cluster together like cells in the Urban Field Adaptive Urban Fabric demonstrates a priority for maximizing space in populated areas.
