This Tsunami Warning System Doubles as a Traffic Sign

Inclement weather and natural disasters are becoming regular occurrences around the world, so this Tsunami Warning System is designed to be a permanent installation to help warn inhabitants.

When an emergency warning has not been issued, the system looks and operates like a traditional traffic sign. Developed by the National Taipei University of Science and Technology, the system would automatically switch between traffic signals and warnings when an alert is sent out. Best of all, the Tsunami Warning System would feature a countdown timer to let inhabitants know exactly how much time is remaining before the wave reaches land.

As modern cities update traditional infrastructure solutions, the incorporation of smarter street signs and the like are helping to make urban locations safer and more efficient.
