Giant Bird Installations

Sipho Mabona Presents Giant Avian Origami at Tropenmuseum

Sipho Mabona has put together an installation in the giant hall at the Tropenmuseum. Massive avian origami pieces fly overhead as people walk by underneath.

The design is breathtaking, as it encompasses the entire ceiling in this section of the museum. Almost all of the birds are done in white, making them look similar to doves flying above. Apparently their sizes vary, with the largest reaching 4-meters in diameter. 'Giga Origami' is the name of the installation, and people who visit an actually add to the collection that's already there. Each person is encouraged to build their own bird so that over the course of the summer the installation will continually grow.

Hopefully this movement by Sipho Mabona will catch on and become a go-to activity for people in the area over the summer. Photo Credits: designboom, mabonaorigami
