The Troika 'The Weather Yesterday' is a playful light installation showing the past instead of the forecast. Created by the London-based studio Troika, whose works use a cross-disciplinary approach that finds the cross between sculpture, architecture, and contemporary installation, the sculpture, "celebrates the weather as a predominant topic of discussion in British culture while offering a spin on the urgency with which we are using our mobile devices, forecasting and interactive technology," according to the designer's site.
Standing at 5 metres high, the installation uses LED lighting of classic forecasting icons of rain, sun and clouds to echo the conditions of the weather from the previous. The automatic updates are possible because Troika used custom software and wireless Internet connection so citizens can compare the weather today to that of yesterday.
As part of the London Festival of Architecture, the Troika The Weather Yesterday installation will remain in the east London Hoxton Square until September 9, 2012.
