This Free Translation App Helps Deaf and Hearing People Converse

This translation app is designed specifically with the deaf in mind. The I Can't Hear app turns speech into text in real time, allowing deaf users who are remote (and therefore unable to sign) to communicate with friends. The free application makes use of iOS speech-to-text capabilities.

Perfect for hearing and non-hearing friends, the translation app instantly converts spoken words into readable text. The app needs two Internet-connected devices to work, such as a computer, smartphone or tablet. Users simply record a message, which is streamed into a unique URL for the other person to receive on their own device. The text clears after 2 seconds, mimicking audible conversations.

iCantHear.org is a not-for-profit app developed by Etienne Adriaenssen.
