Care-Giving Alzheimer's Apps

The Timeless App is a Step Towards Aiding Alzheimer's Patients

The Timeless app is an innovative aid for Alzheimer's patients that is being developed by a 14-year-old. Spurred on by personal experience, Emma Yang began developing Timeless after watching her grandmother's illness consume her life. The app is still under development and Yang is currently using a crowdfunding campaign to fund the project into the next phase. There are currently no apps like this on the market, and Yang hopes that Timeless will take off and show the use of technology for social good.

The Timeless app works by using facial recognition and calendar-based notifications to enhance the lives of people with Alzheimer's. By scrolling through uploaded photos -- uploaded by either the user or by friends and family -- the user can identify who they are speaking to and the relation to the user. If the user does not recognize a person, they can take a picture and use the facial recognition software to try and automatically identify them. The app also features a reminder screen that can be updated by a caregiver. This system notifies users of upcoming appointments and displays pictures alongside who the engagement is with.
