Gibson Debuts a New Version of the Iconic Thunderbird Bass

Gibson has released a new version of its Thunderbird Bass. Available worldwide in Ebony and Tobacco Burst Perimeter finishes, this instrument honors the original 1963 design that was created by automotive designer Ray Dietrich.

The Gibson Thunderbird Bass features a solid mahogany body in the classic Reverse shape with a raised center section, a glued-in set mahogany neck, and an updated Non-Reverse style headstock that simplifies tuning. Modern hardware upgrades include Hipshot Ultralite Mini Clover tuners for improved balance and a Hipshot Supertone bridge offering full intonation control and adjustable action height. Two EB Bass Humbucker pickups deliver high-output low end with deep punch and clarity, while independent volume controls and a master tone knob allow players to shape their sound across multiple genres. The bass ships with a Gibson hardshell case for protection during transport and storage.
