London studio Selencky Parsons transformed a 1970s bungalow into the the 'River House,' a three-storey concrete home located near the River Thames, outside of Oxford, UK.
The house features a concrete bridge which crosses over water, leading to a discreet timber door that provides access into the home. The architects explain that the form of the house has been rigorously simplified by pairing two contrasting elements: the crisp, horizontal folding planes and the randomized vertical timber battens. The vertical strips of timber break up the large expanse of glazing at the front of the estate.
The architects explain, "Floating horizontal planes, softened with random Iroko linings, reduce the visual mass of the building and emphasize the horizontality of the landscape."
