It is an interesting approach to a television show mashup. We usually see the television shows cut and edited together to seem as though people are having conversation with each other or about the same topic.
It is interesting to watch because it is True Detective watching Game of Thrones on their television screen. The television show mashup specifically exposes Rust (Matthew McConaughey) showing Martin (Woody Harrelson) a disturbing video that he found, but the footage ends up being from the Red Wedding scene from last season's Game of Thrones.
The best part about the television show mashup is that Martin's reaction is pretty much exactly what the reaction was for most people while they watched the same scene last year.
