Reflective Adolescence Photography

Simon Duhamel's Teenage Photography Shows Youth Through Windows

Simon Duhamel, a Montreal-based photographer, captures forlorn teenage photography by shooting his subjects from a distance. By taking portrait pictures of each teenager gazing out of their home's window, Duhamel is able to capture their raw emotion and shed light on the "transition period between childhood and adolescence."

Aptly titled ‘In Between,’ the series depicts the subjects searching for their identities. Duhamel framed them -- literally -- within the comfort of their homes, but on the cusp of the outside world. Having them peer outside through their bay windows heightens the uncertainty they will feel within the next few years when they embark on more mature journeys and gain more independence. Some of the teens appear scared, while others look accepting of their futures.
