Concaved Cube Concept Designs

This Architecture from Steven Holl is Balanced and Elegant

The Virginia Commonwealth University campus in Richmond is in for a treat as New York City-based architect Steven Holl recently unveiled his designs for the university's institute of contemporary art.

The designs incorporate polygons such as squares and rectangles in curved shapes with breathless ease. These straight lines and concave forms work together to produce a definite sense of space that will be sure to instill patrons of the institute of contemporary art with an appreciation of proportion and scale.

Holl's design does not indulge in the overbearing extravagances that many designers, unfortunately, think substitute for elegance; rather, Holl has envisioned a building that functions on a human-scale. Both the interior and exterior of the building will complement the artwork it will hold rather than overshadow it.
