Tilted Tropical Homes

This Residence Was Designed as an Antithesis to Jakarta's Status Homes

'Budi Pradono Architects' recently designed a unique home that serves as an antithesis to Jakarta's status homes. In Jakarta, there are certain high-income neighborhoods that are characterized by traditional European design features. This home departs from the European model with a uniquely slanted design.

'Rumah Miring' is a unique home located in Jakarta's Pondok Indah neighborhood. The gated community is home to several famous politicians, musicians and celebrities. These status homes are largely characterized by European design features such as decorative columns and Mediterranean detailing. Rumah Miring serves as an antitheses to these homes with its dramatically tilted frame. Unlike other homes in the area, Rumah Miring's sits on a white steel frame that is tilted towards the street. The skewed angles of the home are designed to serve as a critique of the surrounding environment.

Rumah Miring demonstrates how something as simple as architecture can be used to convey power and status.
