The Gwang Gyo Power Center in South Korea

This otherwordly rendition of a high-density urban project to be constructed near Seoul, South Korea has been presented by MVRDV Architects for the Power Center located in the city of Gwang Gyo.

The concept resembles a number of what appear to be giant green termite hills. Upon closer inspection, however, you can see that the floor-to-floor terraces will be planted with box-type hedges and water will flow around the the circular structures to irrigate the plants.

The whole Power Center project is designed around the two centers of the new town, and the mound-like mixed-use structures will contain housing and offices with a number of cultural and leisure facilities.

The towers will also contain a number of voids to create light and ventilation. The self-sufficient city of 77,000 is expected to completed by 2011.
