Graduate collective Soup International is focusing on providing support for refugees and asylum seekers through portable community kitchens. The idea is to allow these individuals to enjoy "the normalcy of domestic activities"—something most people take for granted.
Soup International embarked on this endeavor during its Migrant Living/Nomadic Domesticities project. The portable community kitchens were designed specifically for the Southward Day Center for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS) which had its kitchen at its St Mary Newington church location destroyed due to a fire.
The eight students that form Soup International have come up with a few concepts for portable kitchens and are currently fundraising to buy materials in order for one of these ideas to be realized and implemented.
