Sustainable Smart Parks

Smart Sports Grounds are Part of the Amsterdam Smart City Program

Amsterdam's smart park program is an energy efficient series of athletic facilities located in the east end of the city. A joint project between 10 sports organizations, local city council members and several entrepreneurs, the smart sports park initiative is designed to focus on three main areas: energy, lighting and community. The project's goal is to highlight opportunities for sustainable upgrades at some of city's busiest sports grounds.

Following a series of energy scans, the project coordinators set forth in planning solutions for energy saving, generation and general efficiency. The smart park in east Amsterdam was generating about 1800-kilowatts per hour as of February 2014.

Still an ongoing development project, the sustainable smart park thus far boasts 24 solar panels and has been used by two sports clubs.
