Dutch design firm OMA showed off its plans to renovate the Selman Stërmasi Stadium which is a football stadium in Tirana. The team aimed to transform the surrounding area which is comprised of geometric high-rise buildings. OMA is expanding the football park into a large development with housing, offices, shops, a hotel, bars, and restaurants which connect the neighborhoods on all sides.
Associate at OMA, Kees van Casteren shared, "By integrating the stadium into a new urban development, we wanted to connect two distinct areas of the city through a shared culture of football as well as spontaneous activities." Managing partner David Gianotten added, "Football is a cornerstone of urban culture and national identity across Europe and around the world, and we feel it especially intensely here in Tirana."
