Dutch artist Ronald van der Meijs has created a unique art installation that is powered by handmade cigars. It is a tribute to the history of Eindhoven city, which was once one of the largest cigar-producing cities of Europe. A sound-art installation, it is made up of four tuners that each control a recorder by means of pistons containing the hand-rolled cigars. The recorders are all different (bass flute, alto, tenor and soprano) in order to create a random melody when working.
Titled 'Play it one more time for me La Ville Fumée,' Ronald van der Meijs' artistic sonate could easily be dedicated to the thousands of workers and craftsmen that worked in the former tobacco industry.
