Recycled Paper Tables by Matt Gagnon Mimic Rock Formations

Artist Matt Gagnon has created a set of recycled paper tables -- aptly titled "Paper Tables" -- that mimic the look of rock formations. Made from layers of recycled paper that have been laser cut and bolted together, these eco-friendly furnishings were inspired by the rock formations of the American southwest, according to the artist.

The laser cuts create carvings and slats in the bodies of these recycled paper tables; these are openings that allow the user to insert books, magazines and other reading materials. When one does this, the tables start to look more like solid rock forms. However, bold colors, like cherry red, inserted into the designs add an extra touch of modernity. As the designer puts it, "There is dialog between the old and the new."

Looking more like sculptural masterpieces than tables, these recycled paper tables by Matt Gagnon would lend a natural but contemporary touch to any home.
