Industrious Salvation Hubs

Detroit's Reclamation Center Will Create Jobs From Demolished Homes

This reclamation center is not only beneficial on an environmental level, but also provides a solution to the abandoned housing situation in Detroit. The city's mayor Mike Duggan has a plan to create a large salvation hub that helps with the deconstruction efforts of abandoned homes by salvaging valuable materials and creating jobs at the same time.

The reclamation center will be in a vacant warehouse the city will lease for $1 a year to an operator in an endeavor to boost industry. This provides opportunity for workers who need jobs as well, and will also enable them to develop useful and transferable skills.

Reclaim Detroit is a similar project, salvaging wood and other materials from structures about to be knocked down. They are resold to entrepreneurs and other redevelopment projects.
