Colonially Inspired Chairs

The Stackable Pudica Chair Alludes to Portuguese Architecture

Pedro Venzon is the Brazilian designer behind the Pudica chair, a stackable piece of furniture that has far more high-minded inspiration that the typical stackable or foldable chairs that might be found in an auditorium. Coming from Brazil, a former Portuguese colony, Venzon is surrounded by colonial Portuguese architecture, and he used that as inspiration to design the Pudica chair.

The arch that forms both portions of the back of the chair is the same shape that graces the windows of old Portuguese buildings, specifically those built by the Jesuits. That shape, common in both houses and churches, is known as an ogival arch.

The stackable steel and brass chairs come in two tones: gold and matte black. Since one of their key features is stackability, consumers might as well get Pudica chairs in both colors.
