Toronto's 'Project: Under Gardiner' Comprises an Urban Park Under a Highway

Project: Under Gardiner is an ambitious and some would say much-needed project that will see a linear urban park created under a section of Toronto's Gardiner Expressway. The park will be home to cycling and walking paths as well as a multitude of recreational and activity spaces.

The project takes after the Miami Underline by reinventing land and space below a raised road, land that is usually left unused.

The park, which will run under the Gardiner Expressway from Strachan Avenue to Spadina Avenue, will connect a number of communities and will create "a new outdoor living room for the use of the 70,000 residents in nearby neighbourhoods and for visitors who use the many amenities and attractions in the area."

Toronto has recently been trying to gain recognition as one of the planet's truly world-class cities, and Project: Under Gardiner will help enhance its claim by making use of unused, unsightly space and turning it into something beautiful that can help bring people together.
