The Fairtrade International Plot Insights platform has been debuted as a new digital system that hones in on cocoa farmers and coffee cooperatives to offer support in the face of changing regulations.
The platform comes ahead of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) that will require products to ensure products are deforestation-free before being offered on the European market. The platform will thus offer geolocation data management to help cooperatives retain ownership and control over data, while streamlining its sharing with trade partners. Cooperatives will be able to upload data to receive immediate feedback and information on errors, which will leverage data from Satelligence thanks to a continued partnership.
Senior Advisor, Climate and Environment Brenda Mariana Huerta García spoke on the Fairtrade International Plot Insights platform saying, "Farmers are having to adopt new digital tools and map farm plots, which is an expensive burden in order to continue to be viable suppliers to the European market. With Plot Insights, Fairtrade cocoa cooperatives have a free platform to check their geolocation data quality, receive deforestation risk analysis from Satelligence, and share data with their buyers, all built with cooperatives’ businesses in mind and to support our environmental goals to prevent deforestation."
